Doug DeLozier began his Pet Supplies Plus franchising journey over two decades ago when he purchased his first two locations. Twenty years later, DeLozier and his partners are one of the largest Pet Supplies Plus multi-franchise unit owner groups, with 49 locations and one more opening this summer. As if 50 franchise units weren’t enough, DeLozier recently signed a deal to open 20 more franchises with Pet Supplies Plus over the next five years. So, just how did DeLozier go from two to 50+ Pet Supplies Plus franchises? A shared passion for pets and a successful, proven business model to start.
Choosing to Own a Top Pet Franchise
Before becoming a top multi-unit Franchise Owner, DeLozier’s background was a retail store manager with Kroger. He traveled the country looking for ways to improve store performance, which is how he learned what it took to successfully run a business. He liked the idea of Pet Supplies Plus specifically because he was a pet lover of course, and because he liked the grocery-style format of foods, products and services for pets.
DeLozier worked for a Pet Supplies Plus Franchise Owner for a couple years. The, he took the plunge and opened his first two franchises, later partnering with Chad Bush and Aaron Young, with whom he is still business partners today.
On their choice of Pet Supplies Plus as the best multi-unit franchise to own, DeLozier said, “We’ve always been attracted to the high-volume, low-margin and repeat sales being a reliable, local grocery store for the growing number of pet parents.”
Growing Alongside a Top Pet Franchise
DeLozier and his success as a top multi-unit Franchise Owner is a testament to how Pet Supplies Plus supports its Franchise Owners. DeLozier worked with his business partners to create a scalable infrastructure that allowed them to offer the highest quality of products and services across all their units. Pet Supplies Plus offered DeLozier the support and guidance he needed to continue to grow with the brand.
Today, DeLozier and his partners have Pet Supplies Plus stores across Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin and Texas. The majority of the 20 stores they’ll be opening in the next five years will be in Texas and Tennessee.
Clearly, DeLozier isn’t planning to slow down anytime soon with the top pet franchise. When asked about even more future Pet Supplies Plus locations, DeLozier answered, “My next goal is 100 stores. Since I exceeded all the goals I set originally, I’m setting some new ones. 100 is a good number for me to shoot for!”
